Does your mother tell you what to do?

Are you an adult child who has been an adult for many chronological years who has a mother who tells you with whom you should or should not be friends? My mother has been telling me that I should cut all ties with a friend who she sees as terribly mentally ill. She feels I will be influenced and become mentally ill as well. I have had few people I would consider my friend in my life. There has never been any that she has approved of. It's always "quit having a relationship with that person." She makes it seem like she cares for my well-being. I beg to differ. Blech!

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

1.Be Impeccable With Your Word: Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

2.Don't Take Anything Personally: Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.

3.Don't Make Assumptions: Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4.Always Do Your Best: Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

pathetic humans...

I am very angry now. I cannot fathom how someone whom I had considered a good friend for a good number of years now just treats me like crap. He promised to write birthday well-wishes on his blog for me. I thought that was very nice of him and thanked him for that. Did he? Nope. He did wish two of his other friends who had birthdays two days and three days after mine, respectively, very nice happy birthdays on his blog. What the hell was that all about?! All I can imagine is he is being passive aggressive because he is angry at me for something and perhaps had been fostering this anger toward me for some time now. I am extremely hurt. It is sad how easily someone whom you considered one of your very few, precious, friends in this world could be so heartless.
